De-Stress With Laughter{RAOKA}

March Theme: LAUGHTER

“The belly laugh is the best way to evacuate anguish.” ~Jean Vanier

Who doesnt have problems? Anyone?? Look around you, look at everyone around you and notice. Each and everyone of us has some problem or issue with which we are dealing with everyday. Sometimes, its a small problem and sometimes its a massive problem. But its there. Noone can deny it. I have my own share too. We try to deal with these problems as best we can, but they can and they do get to us. More often these problems cause so much stress, it starts showing up on your physical being in the form of hypertension, acidity, breathing problems, snoring, sleeplessness..the list is endless. Looking for the solution in pills and with doctors is not always a necessity. OK Pills help, but temporarily. When another stressful situation comes along another pill and then another and then another. The dependency on those little pills can become a massive issue.

There ain’t much fun in medicine, but there’s a heck of a lot of medicine in fun. ~Josh Billings

What if there was a way to de-stress which didnt require pills? What if there was a way to de-stress and make yourself happy while you did it? How much fun that would be..right!

Well, Laughter is exactly that. Its the Medicine for your heart and soul which inturn keeps your physical body happy too. Amazing isnt it. It is natures very own magic pill, but so much bigger and so much better. And ever so contagious.

For me Laughter is one of my all-time favorite stress management strategies because it’s free, convenient, and beneficial in so many ways.

What kind of laughter am I talking about? The belly kind..oh yes, the kind that when you start, you cant stop. The kind that makes your beautiful cheeks hurt and the kind that makes tears of joy flow through your gorgeous eyes.

You can infuse more laughter in your life, just like I have in mine, with the following acts:

  • Comic T.V. and Movies: So many wonderful storytellers, such wonderful actors and great directors make watching comedies truly a happy happy experience. There’s no shortage of laughter from the entertainment, both at the theater and in the aisles of the video stores, as well as at home with T.V. comedies. While wasting your time watching something marginally funny may actually frustrate you, watching truly hilarious movies and shows is an easy way to get laughter into your life whenever you need it. My personal favorite sitcoms are – 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, How I met Your Mother among many others.
  • Laugh Dates With Family and Friends: Going to a movie or comedy club with family and friends is a great way to get more laughter in your life. The contagious effects of laughter may mean you’ll laugh more than you otherwise would have during the show, plus you’ll have jokes to reference at later times. Having friends over for a get together or game night is also a great setup for laughter and other good happy feelings.
  • Humor yourself: Why complain about life’s frustrations, try to laugh about them. If something is so frustrating or depressing it’s ridiculous, realize that you could look back on it and laugh. Think of how it will sound as a story you could tell your friends, and then see if you can laugh about it now. With an attitude of this kind, you may also find yourself being more lighthearted and silly, giving yourself and those around you more to laugh about. Approaching life in a more mirthful way will make you less stressed about negative events, and you’ll achieve the health benefits of laughter.
  • Have Fun: With life’s stresses we tend to forget to have fun. Have fun while you enjoy an ice cream cone with your kids or yourself. Have fun at work by sharing a joke with colleagues. Have fun at home with your partner by playing fun games that make you laugh like crazy. Just let go, and see how much fun you can have. Laughter will just be the best companion if you’re having fun.

There are many other ways to infuse your life with laughter. You know yourself better, figure out ways to laugh. Laugh out loud! There is no better feeling and no better medicine.

And on that note, I am ending this article with a funny clip which my family and I enjoyed watching over and over and over again…laughing the earth shattering laugh we so enjoy. Enjoy!

May your life be full of laughter and may those little pills never find you!

Do you have some more tips and tricks to infuse Laughter in our lives? Please share your funnies in the comments ..I look forward to some more laughing 🙂

  1. Thank you, Zeenat! Laughter is such a pure and precious gift from God. I’m going to be on a mission to totally crack myself up today. If I happen to crack someone else up while I’m at it, then that’s a bonus!

Here’s a goofy joke for you.

Q: Where does the president keep his armies?

    A: In his sleevies!

  3. I really like the “Humor Yourself”. So often we find the frustrating things. So often that is all we notice.

Looking for the humor in situations really turns them around. My husband and I have a new thing we talk about over dinner in the evening. We call it, “Tell me something funny from today.” So all day we are on the lookout for some funny event to discuss. We truly look forward to it. It isn’t making fun of a person, but it has to be a funny situation or passing comment about a situation.

Thanks as always for a positive and inspiring post!

    1. Hi Erin,
Thats a wonderful practice you and your hubby have started…”tell me something funny from today”…I think I ma gonna start that with my hubby too 🙂
And youre right..being caught up in the frustrations happens far too many times..rather being open to humor in those situations really makes the frustrations go away…
Thank you fro stopping by and sharing your beautiful thoughts 🙂
      Much love~

  4. Hi Zeenat,

You are a funny, funny woman, Zeenat! I loved the video — absolutely contagious.

(Joy: Funny! In his sleevies!! ha ha ha — thanks!)
(Erin S: What a great idea — to talk about something funny from the day. I think I’ll borrow that idea, if you don’t mind. 🙂 )

I think my favorite tip you’ve listed, Zeenat, is to humor ourselves. The material is always there; I can simply tap into it whenever I need a lift. And, I’m such a goofball sometimes, believe me, I have A LOT of material.

Great job with this theme, Zeenat. Thanks for the quotes, the ideas, and also for just being you.

    1. Hi Lori luv,
First of all…I am no woman! Oh no..I’m a little girl who refuses to grow up 😉
Glad you liked what I did with this laughter theme….coming from you means a lot…oh funny one 😉
      Much love~

  5. What a fun post, Zeenat! YAY! 🙂

My husband and I had a really hard week last week, a lot of trials and tests to go through. When Sunday came around, we were a bit battle-scarred but friends were coming over for Easter Sunday lunch — good friends — and we knew it would be good for us.

Let me just say that the day ( a smashing success) ended after midnight after three hours of beers and very loud karaoke in front of our telly. It was so hysterical that we all laughed till we cried.

After the drama of the first part of the week, we ended on a high note (literally) — was it Bohemia Rhapsody we were singing? Or Abba? 😉

    Anywho, thought you’d enjoy that.

And one more thing, the thing that got me giggling today. We rocked up to the supermarket to do our Wednesday shopping and there was a poster on the window:

“Lost: Boobies. If found, please return to owner.”

Maybe I am still 12, but I’ve been giggling about that all day … even if I do realize that “Boobies” is a little white pekingese.

    1. Hey Chania Girl,
So glad the week ended on a positive and happy note! Awesome! And having friends over is just such a great way of infusing laughter in our days.
Ohh…my dear..youre not the only girl here…I am a girl who refuses to grow up too…;)
so boobies makes me giggle too….hehhehe..
And my new favorite word is BAZZINGA….it makes me giggle that naughty giggle everytime….why??go figure…i’m still wondering too 😉

  6. OMG, that video, I am LAUGHING and LAUGHING, Zeenat!!

I do so agree, laughter gets right to our cellular make-up and heals us. I feel SOOOO good when I laugh, like Katie’s West’s “The Levety Project” even if we may not feel like laughing — if we do it, we feel so great. And we want to laugh some more. And MORE!!!

    Happy RAOKA day!!

    xoxo

And laughing, I now hit post on this comment…..

    1. Hey Jannie,
I am so so giggly happy this video made you laugh 🙂 Thats what I was going for LAUGHTER….hehehehhe…
And that Katie at the levity project is sucha hoot!..
Happy raoka to you too oh janniefunsterlandqueen 😉
      Much love~

  7. Loved your post, Zeenat, and that video clip had me in tears (the good kind, of course)!

And I LOVE “The Big Bang Theory”. I’m not normally a huge sit-com fan. Though I laugh at them, I don’t normally consider them at the top of my favorite shows list … except for that one. I think it was the very first episode where Leonard thought he heard an intruder in the apartment and came running out of the bedroom with a toy light saber. I can’t even think of the scene without giving in to snickers.

    1. Hi Gayle,
So awesome that you love big bang too! Yay! And I thought I was the only nerd lover here 😉
My new favorite funny giggly word is BAZZINGA too…! Courtesy Sheldon 😉

      1. Who could not love Sheldon? 🙂 I must confess, though, I think I love the Big Bang Theory so much because they remind me of my own family. LOL I actually have a picture of my two kids, at ages six and two, sitting in Captain Kirk’s chair — the original, at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. I got my hubby a Klingon Dictionary for Christmas one year. And my daughter aced her final oral report in high school physics by doing a presentation on … warp drive theory.

        Live Long and Prosper, everyone!

  8. Hi Zeenat .. loved the post and the video .. those ‘terrible’ shows always make us cringe and roll about .. I remember Tom and Jerry as a kid .. we howled with laughter = such fun. Now good times with good friends .. always turning towards the positive and laughter.

I love the pic of the girls .. they always giggle so well at that age ..and later! Then the ‘boobies’ poster .. brilliant & such fun .. have a laugh about that with others too ..

When my mother was more communicative .. I’d bring in snippets and we’d laugh away .. often mimicking each other & giggle away – good for both of us!!

Go well – and have fun with your little one .. friends and family – happy laughing days .. Hilary

    1. Hi Hilary,
Am so glad you enjoyed this 🙂 The video has me in splits every-time I see it.
And sharing funny snippets is an excellent way to keep the humor alive. Make for good fun ad happy times.
Thank you fro your wonderful wishes and thoughts here.
      Much love~

  9. Hey Zeenat!
Okay….that video is sooooo fun!!! And it has me laughing! And what a great thing!! It’s been a feel good day…and seeing this all just made it even more lighter and fun! And what a beautiful thing!!!

Here’s to all sorts of fun and laughs throughout our days!!!

    1. HI Lance,
Am happy happy to see you enjoyed this video….:)
Every-time i think of you laughing I get the mental image of you dancing with you little boy in the car 🙂
      Much Love~

  10. Boy, there is truth all OVER the place in this post. I had a particularly tough day, but I know that I am not the only one. Just out of curiosity, I searched “in the hospital” on Twitter and was amazed at how many of us struggle every day. But at the end of the day, I got to share such a great moment of belly laughter with my precious 5 year old son. We got each other cracked up and it was a wonderful way to end the day. Thanks for a great post! Take care.

    1. HI Bobby,
Wow…thats some search you did..and you actually got results.
Its true …we all go through so much every single day….laughter somehow heals it all.
And a kids laughter is the best kind..purest of them all. I have those with my little 3 year old everyday….we have tickle sessions every-night before bed…its our little thing 🙂
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your wonderful thoughts.
      Much Love~

  11. Megan "JoyGirl!" Bord

I just love this post! Another one with GREAT quotes — how fantastic!

Laughter is THE THING, in my eyes. It cuts through negativity in an instant, and doesn’t require positivity to be present beforehand to bring it on. It’s like the superhero of emotions.

Beautiful Zeenat, thank you for taking part in RAOKA and always bringing us a fresh perspective on the month’s theme. What a great group working toward a phenomenal goal.

    Laughter, love & more laughter!
    Megan

    1. Hi My Angel,
The thing in your eyes is indeed laughter…and I can sure feel it here. This is the one awesome emotion that truly works like a charm on negativity.
I am glad you enjoyed this post and thank you as always fro the beautiful and loving words you so beautifully share here.
      Much Love~

  12. Well hello there Zeenat and you’ve touched on a topic which is very close to my heart! As you know being a comedian I’ve seen what the power of laughter does for people from a unique angle and I can say that I get much from it too. I’m actually on stage on Saturday doing my first gig in about 6 months and I’m as nervous as heck but also really looking forward to it too.

I remember when my sister passed away I was in desperate need of laughter and that was when I discovered Jeff Dunham’s videos on youtube which provided me with hours of laughter when I desperately needed some.

Even recently I needed some laughter and so did my family so I uploaded my bollywood video on my blog which has already given laughter to quite a few people.

As for favorite shows, I’m particularly a fan of Scrubs…can’t get enough of it! 🙂

    1. Hi Amit,
Laughter is a savior alright!…it has been my go to de stressing agent for far too long 🙂
I am going to go and check out that bollywood video….I have to see it and have my share of laughter too 🙂
Ohhh..I forgot t mention Scrubs! I love it tooo…..hehhehe…just thinking about it makes me giggle 🙂

    1. Hi Jonathan,
Ahhh….the happy happy Raoka patrol are at their laughter best 😉
Glad youre enjoying this dose of laughter we are all churning out….
And Jonathan, if you ever need more laughs..just let me know..;) At your laughter service… 😉

  13. Hi Zeenat,

I’m with you. Those belly laughs are the greatest. And…with laughter being the best medicine, for anyone who’s ill, watching funny movies might be just what they need.

I still remember “I Love Lucy” and all the laughs that show had. It was so innocent, yet funny.

BTW: I noticed you are now offering free ebooks which showcase your wonderful work. Great job, Zeenat. 🙂

Plus…all of the changes you’ve made to your blog has it looking awesome. 🙂

    1. HI Barbara,
Isn’t laughter the best! Glad you stopped by and had a peek 🙂
And thank you so so much for t he compliments on the blog. Coming for my blogging teacher they mean the world.
      Much Love~

  14. Beautiful and brilliant Zeenat! I wrote recently about Persepolis, the memoirs of author Satrapi from Iran, and I am going to write my own memoirs. In it, I was reminded again by the stubbornness of Iranians for finding ways to laugh at their own misery and misfortune, no matter how bad things get. The jokes in the book were a reminder of just how resilient human beings are and how much we seek happiness and a state of content, regardless of all our share of problems. A laugh and a hug to you for being such a great reminder of this today.

    1. Hi Farnoosh,
Your own memoirs..WOW! That sounds awesome! I have got to come and check it out.
We humans are a funny mix na…we want happiness, but we do everything contrary to happiness…and then complain.
Well laughter does definitely save the day!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts here.
      Much Love~

  15. Peggy Nolan

there’s nothing better than the belly laugh – souful, cleansing laughter that leaves you feeling refreshed and recharged. I love belly laughing!!

  16. Very funny video Zeenat!

I find hte best way of lightening up is to have some young children around me.

Playing some silly games or even just going to a playground immediately puts me in am uch light mood:-)

    1. HI Arvind,
Youre so right! That is an awesome way to get into a great mood. I have my little 3 year old…so have my share of good playful moments all the time.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts here 🙂

  18. Hi Z.
Thanks for making me laugh…my grandchildren are here visiting so I’m laughing through out my days with them. There is something about children’s laughter that’s contagious and I can’t get enough of it.

    1. Hi Tess,
Arent kids the best! They always know how to be happy without even trying too hard. Keeping kids around is one of the best mood enhancers and laughter infusers 🙂
Have fun with your grand-kids 🙂
      Much love~

  20. I love to laugh in the face of adversity. There are times when I laugh (at work) and it gets me into a little trouble. Sometimes when people get really serious about the fact you laugh, it just makes it even more funny!
Loved the video by the way. That’s alughing at absurdity.
