Human Experience {Inspiration from Helen Keller}

“The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.”
~Helen Keller~

Your life, the one youre living right NOW, has been and will be full of experiences. Experiences that will sometimes be fun, sometimes sad, sometimes happy…a range of emotions will be attached to any one experience. And there is a lesson to be learned from each and every experience as well.

Whenever you think of your past experiences, you will notice you tend to forget so many details, the details you want to remember. Thats because we are not living each moment wholeheartedly.

Experience every moment, one at a time, simply by being in that moment wholeheartedly, with all your five senses deep within that very experience…and see how when you look back to that experience, you will remember every little detail like a movie playing in your head.

How rich you are doesn’t depend on the depth of your pocket, it depends on the depth of your experiences, which are like minute globules of warm chocolate, sitting inside of you, and waiting for you to taste their smooth joyful richness whenever YOU want.

What experiences do you want to relive? Have you truly been experiencing every moment with all your five senses?

with love Zeenat

  1. Zeenat,
Today once again feels like we are talking about such similar thoughts (wow!)! Our life is made up of all the “moments” that are our life. The question is – are we truly experiencing those moments? Or is this some fog that’s keeping us from fully being in these moments? I do believe that if we can fully experience the moments of our life, the richness of our experience can increase so much – and this is for all the moments – good and not-so-good.

Zeenat, this feels so right to be here today and be reading this. And I’m once again drawn in to they synchronicity of our posts today…like it was somehow meant to be…

    1. HI Lance,
The good and the not so good moments….both are meant to be experienced with all our five senses….being aware is key …
Our thought similarities….Meant to be or serendipity….Its amazing how we end up talking about the same things….like i said before..like minds 🙂
Thank you so much for your lovely insight on this friend.

Very true indeed. I guess sometimes we get so caught up in materialistic things that we lose site of our “actual” value.

Good post.. I got something to ponder upon this Sunday morning ….

    Thanks
    Persha

    1. Hi Persha,
I’m glad you liked this post.
The true value of life is in actually living it…and not running after material things…
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely thoughts 🙂

  3. Zeenat,
I love this reminder. Thank you. Yes, it is so true. Often my children ask my if I remember things from our collective past (they are now 19-27) Sadly I often have to say that I don’t. Those years were very stress-filled for me. I was virtually single parenting and in a very difficult marriage with their father. I was not fully in the present moment, savoring it all. I was in survival. Blessedly, all that has changed and life has a lovely way of offering us opportunities to turn our lives around. I have and today I do try to live in the moment, senses attuned to high, so that I can capture every last delicious morsel…and have many memories to relive in my golden years….Blessings to you this day.

    1. Hi Jan,
So many of us have been through that phase where we couldnt remember a thing….there was too much pain and anguish to bother about all else. I’ve been there too…but like you blessedly now and today my sense are in my control…and i can savor every delicious morsel. Lets both have minutes chocolate globules to share when we reach our golden years 🙂
Thank you for your lovely comment and the blessings. Love and Blessings to you too 🙂

  4. Zeenat, I love this quote and picture. Without the contrast of pain, we don’t know what pleasure is. As far as your article, you are quite right. Richness should be measured in experience, well-being, relationships, and many other currencies besides $$. The richness of the current moment might be the most valuable currency of all.

    1. Hi Stephen,
OUr beautiful current moment- experiencing this moment…..the best curremcy ever!! Its richness will never ever end..
Am so glad you liked this quote and pic 🙂 Thank you for you lovely insight on this.

  5. I would like to relive riding a bicycle. I don’t have one right now and haven’t ridden in some years. Santa??? 🙂

    Same for getting inline skates.

Also would like to relive the joys of digging tunnels in snowbanks. Santa?? A big snowstorm in Austin, TX, please? “Sorry, Jannie,” he says.”You’ll have to wait until you’re back in Nova Scotia. “Be patient, my child.”

But right here today in THIS moment there is so much I can live and enjoy. And my heart is open to loving this day. This precious moment of life. Even at this keyboard there is happiness, connecting with you feels warm and fuzzy.

    Happy Day!!

    1. Awww Jannie, Youre such a dear. Connecting with you feels all warm and fuzzy too 🙂 And hey…please please tell Santa, I want snow here in south India too….I have never ever played in the snow 😦
But really isnt it awesome that we can experience so much in just this one moment…thats such a wow factor for me!
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your nice and naughty thoughts on this 🙂

  6. Hi Zeenat,

Each day is a new beginning on some level and each day we have a choice either to make the most out of it or lament our misery. Sometimes it is hard to see the beauty when the mind is consumed in worry but worry never accomplishes anything. The mere fact we can get up in the morning and live our lives is such a gift. We never know when this wonderful journey will end so why not just make the most out of it while we can?

    Hope all is well! 🙂

    1. Hi Nadia,
Youre so so so right! Lifes journey is too short to lament over the misfortunes…rather focus on the good things in your life and experience every moment with an open mind and heart.
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment 🙂

  7. This is something I struggle with – trying to do too many things at once and missing out on the moment. I have children and I don’t want them to remember me as the mom with too much on her plate. Thanks for the reminder to slow down and truly experience these moments with my kids. That way, I’ll be able to better cherish the memories we create.

    1. HI Joy,
I am glad this post helped you 🙂 Its never easy to be or try to be perfect in front of our kids…but we try. Its better to just be ourselves and simply instill great qualities in them by example. It aint easy but it can be done 🙂
Multitasking has never made nay of my experiences memorable 😉 Slowing down and cherishing every moment one at a time…now thats living 🙂
Thank you fro your lovely thoughts on this 🙂

  8. Yes, we gobble up our lives as we gobble up our food.
One big bite, no chewing, one big gulp and it is all gone.
It sure does pay to remind yourself to savor moments before you get reminded by death sitting on your shoulder because you are getting older.
Life’s turbulations have taken me over too in the past, like Jan’s did.
Now I am making sure to observe when I am not feelig joyous and change my inner conversations.
It makes a huge diffference to my quality of life, so it sure is an important thing to remember, to savor the joyful richness of any experience.
But I still need help with that to be honest, reading your lovely blog helps, and having conversations with other people who also know about this helps so I can keep reminding myself WHEN I think I am NOT having a rich experience.

    Hugs Wilma

    1. Hi Wilma,
Life and its experiences are best cherished and savored….till they aint yummy they aint memorable 🙂
I am glad this blog and your friends help in bringing you back to good and happy conversations and thoughts. A great support system is always so so helpful!
      Hugs to you too 🙂

  9. Hi Zeenat!
To be sure it is the contrast we actually need – just as in a good painting, or a piece of music. That is what ultimately makes things so beautiful. I’ve spent time on the top and plenty in life’s basement. Learning to make the best of both – since ups and downs are ever-present – simply requires of me to keep dancing and oh how I love to dance! Memories are lovely but I think if I dwell too long there I’ll miss the right now!
    Hugs
    suZen

    1. Hi Suzen,
Youre so right…dwelling in memories for too long isnt a very good state of mind to be in. But, memories if made well by experiencing each moment, can be beautiful whenever you ever think of them..which inturn will give you a sense of solace and even bring you happiness.
Now is whats the most important part of your life…cause this NOW is whats going to be an experience in your memory tomorrow 🙂
      Big Hug to you 🙂

  10. Lovely post Z with grt quote. . Happy family moments…. I was quite young but could still remember mother getting us all together. She had just baked one of her favorite cakes, the house smelt quite nice and we all sat ready to watch King Kong… will love to relive those moments.. mother loved cooking & baking…. Now we are all married dispersed to different homes ….

    1. Hi Fatima,
Wow…cookies and the smell of baking..my two favorite things 🙂 I am like garfield with lasagna when it comes to cakes and bakes 😉
So beautiful to go back to those sweet memories of your mum isnt it 🙂 Life goes on, things change, circumstances change….but the memories are what remain forever…

    1. Hi Lana,
Practice surely is required…we arent perfect na..and we do tend to slip..but being aware with practice gives us the fuel we need to live in this very moment…and enjoy this experience.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts here 🙂

    Zeenat,

It is so important, yet so hard to do. I always find myself worrying about tomorrow or thinking about past moments.

A moment of enlightenment came when my six year old asked me about when is the future and I had to explain that the future never comes, we only have right now. The conversation was kinda circular, and I don’t think she got it right away, but it’s a start and it reminded me of the same.

    George

    1. Wow George…You explanation of the future is so perfect 🙂 I think you should think and remember it more often 🙂
And well kids have a way of putting things into perspective with their questioning isnt it…
My little one isnt questioning just as yet….but I have to brace myself for when that happens 🙂

  12. Hi Z, anymore, I really don’t see contrast the way I once did, with a label attached. Every experience is different, but the contrast doesn’t involve a judgment of good or bad (except in extreme cases). Most of the time, it’s all just a beautiful, ever changing adventure.

  13. This quote reminds me of one I read by Pema Chodron in a book that was recommended to me. It said, “[My teacher] said the ideal spiritual journey needs the balance of ‘gloriousness’ and ‘wretchedness.’ If it were all glory, just one success after another, we’d get extremely arrogant and completely out of touch with human suffering. On the other hand, if it were all wretchedness and we never had any insights, and never experienced joy or inspiration, then we’d get so discouraged that we’d give up. So, what’s needed is a balance.”

Beautiful image, and beautiful quote, Zeenat; thank you for filling our lives with it!

    1. Amen, Sistah! What is needed is balance, indeed! 😉

Z., I love this post. You, and Helen Keller, make me feel like nothing is impossible. Thanks for being you!!

      🙂

  14. I spent most of today with my parents. We have not always gotten along well over the years…but somehow now life has shifted and we are in alignment hearts and souls…I will remember the warmth of my mother’s hand supporting my arm as we walked through a restaurant at lunch…the tears that started and stopped quickly as I said to her, “Mom, this is backwards…you are 75 and I am 44. You should be the one with the cane…” and I saw the brimming tears in her eyes…then offered “But life is full of unexpected surprises, there are no promises…I’m so glad you are here to help me.” So I will remember the love in my Mother’s eyes, as she assisted me, her adult child and we found our way to our seats. Such a blessing in these simple gentle words and gestures.

  15. When I am in the moment, I can stop worrying and just be….a very nice reminder today.
My Father was a friend of Helen Keller’s and saw her every time he travelled to the East Coast. They shared work with the deaf, blind and their hopes for integration and acceptance….

I have a child who can not seem to learn how to plan ahead…she is so in the moment…3 months away is just a generalization…so without that skill it is very hard to understand many things that are going on around you…yes be in this moment and rejoice in it, but also leave the other parts of living within your perspective?

  16. Z.
